As we rebuild the site and work about moving the Kansas Library Trustee Association forward, I want to make sure that we are able to show the value of your membership and what your membership dollars are able to do to enhance the Trustee experience in Kansas as well as the benefits to our public libraries.
The two biggest things that we work on in the Kansas Library Trustee Association is advocacy for libraries and continuing education opportunities for Trustees.
Trustees provide for and guide the quality of the libraries in our communities. They advocate for libraries through being vocal supporters of our libraries. They make sure that libraries are adequately funded. They understand that fiscal stewardship is of the utmost importance to taxpayers. The power of membership is the combination of our collective voices. Trustees understand that libraries are essential to the health of our communities.
The role of continuing education in the Kansas Library Trustee Association is to ensure that our Trustees are provided the tools to be effective voices, leaders, and members of our library boards as we seek to make sure people understand the vital role that libraries have in our society.
Currently, KLTA serves as a member on the Governmental Affairs Committee. The Governmental Affairs Committee is charged with tracking legislative issues that concern libraries. Through the funding of a legislative liaison by the Kansas Library Association, we are able to hear about issues as they spring up in legislature. The Governmental Affairs Committee and the Legislative Liaison work together to develop strategies and action plans to best leverage our advocacy efforts.
As always, if you have any questions about the Kansas Library Trustees Association, please do not hesitate to reach out to me by email at Director @ Lmlibrary.org or by phone at 620-626-0180.
